Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird, along with Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles, Las Vegas Aces\u2019 forward A\u2019ja Wilson, and Seattle forward Breanna Stewart \u2013 highlight the list of 10 players, including four guards and six frontcourt players from across the WNBA<\/a>, who were selected by fans, current WNBA players and media to start in AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2022 WNBA All-Star Game will be played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, home of the defending WNBA Champion Chicago Sky, on Sunday, July 10, and will be the centerpiece of a weekend full of WNBA activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson and Stewart, by virtue of being the two All-Star starters who finished with the most fan votes, will serve as official team co-captains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will joined as co-captains by Fowles and Bird, who both have announced their retirement upon conclusion of the 2022 season after legendary careers spanning almost two decades. Bird will be paired with Wilson; Fowles will be paired with Stewart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor icons like Sylvia and Sue to be voted into the AT&T WNBA All-Star Game as starters in their 15th<\/sup>\u00a0and 19th<\/sup>\u00a0seasons, respectively, is extraordinary,\u201d said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd when you see the starting lineups dotted with first-time All-Stars like Sabrina Ionescu, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young, it just seems right that Sylvia and Sue \u2013 who have said this will be their final season \u2013 join A\u2019ja and Breanna as co-captains for an All-Star event that will in some ways symbolize the passing of the torch to a new generation of WNBA stars,” she continued.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Engelbert named Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner, who was selected to seven prior AT&T WNBA All-Star Games, an honorary All-Star and starter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring each season of Brittney\u2019s career in which there has been an All-Star Game, she has been selected as an All-Star,\u201d said Engelbert. \u201cIt is not difficult to imagine that if BG were here with us this season, she would once again be selected and would, no doubt, show off her incredible talents. So, it is only fitting that she be named as an honorary starter today and we continue to work on her safe return to the U.S.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining Wilson,<\/strong> Stewart, <\/strong>and Fowles<\/strong> as AT&T All-Star Game starters in the frontcourt are 2021 WNBA MVP Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones<\/strong>, Los Angeles Sparks\u2019 forward Nneka Ogwumike<\/strong>, and Chicago Sky forward-center Candace Parker<\/strong>. The starting guards, in addition to Bird, are the New York Liberty\u2019s Sabrina Ionescu<\/strong> and Las Vegas Aces\u2019 teammates Kelsey Plum<\/strong> and Jackie Young<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voting will now begin for the 12 reserves for\u00a0AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022, which will be selected by the league\u2019s head coaches, and will be announced on Tuesday, June 28.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference.\u00a0 They may not vote for their own players. If a player is unable to play in AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022 for any reason, a replacement player will be named to the roster by Commissioner Engelbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The co-captains will select their respective All-Star rosters during ESPN\u2019s broadcast of the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special<\/em> on Saturday, July 2 (3 p.m. ET), choosing first from the remaining pool of eight starters and then from the pool of 12 reserves.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
