As the franchise continues its methodical rebuild, new additions Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and Jamir Watkins are already showing signs that they align with the team\u2019s culture-first approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dbltakesports.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/13\/wizards-land-6th-pick-despite-top-odds-what-comes-next\/\" title=\"\">Selected No. 6 overall<\/a>, Johnson headlines the class with his offensive upside and maturity beyond his years. Riley, taken at No. 21 after the team acquired draft rights to him from the Utah Jazz, is a smooth, intelligent wing out of Illinois. Watkins, a well-rounded forward out of Florida State, joined the Wizards at No. 43 after the team traded back into the second round on night one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, the trio represents more than just a talent infusion, they reflect the values <a href=\"https:\/\/monumentalsports.com\/people\/will-dawkins\/\" title=\"\">General Manager Will Dawkins<\/a> and his staff have spent the past few years instilling in an effort to rebrand the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s who we are at our core,\u201d Dawkins told Double Take Sports at his post-draft press conference. \u201cWe\u2019re a player-centric building. We\u2019re a people-first organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those values were evident in the way the team approached the draft process. Dawkins emphasized that their pre-draft workouts weren\u2019t just about skill evaluation. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to just roll the balls out for the workout,\u201d he said. \u201cThey get to touch the PPE departments. They get to sit down and talk with analytics to learn about themselves. It is a family atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That intentionality seems to have resonated with the rookies. Dawkins highlighted the group\u2019s versatility, positional size, and competitive drive. \u201cThey\u2019ve got a lot of work to put in,\u201d he said, \u201cbut knowing these guys, they\u2019re not afraid to put that time in. They\u2019ll get their opportunity early in Las Vegas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each player brings a different element to the rebuild.&nbsp;<strong>Will Riley<\/strong>&nbsp;is eager to showcase his decision-making and feel for the game:&nbsp;<em>\u201cBeing versatile, making the right reads, showing my intelligence and my coachability,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jamir Watkins<\/strong> is similarly focused on adaptability.&nbsp;<em>\u201cJust being versatile, being able to space the floor, and being easy to play with,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he said of his NBA goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tre Johnson<\/strong>&nbsp;echoed that same mindset.&nbsp;<em>\u201cI like what they said about being versatile\u2014really just doing whatever the team needs, showcasing what\u2019s needed to win,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Wizards continue to build from the ground up, this year\u2019s rookies seem aligned with both the culture and the direction Dawkins is shaping\u2014one that values both people and potential. It\u2019s not just about who the Wizards drafted, but how they\u2019re being integrated into something bigger than basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe care about people.
