As the Washington Wizards continue navigating a rebuild, one of the NBA\u2019s brightest stars sees something familiar in their process. After facing Washington, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who experienced a full rebuild with the Oklahoma City Thunder, offered a measured but telling assessment of where the Wizards stand in a conversation with Double Take Sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI honestly think they\u2019re on the right path,\u201d he said. A sentiment that was also shared by Kevin Durant<\/a> during his recent visit to Capital One Arena. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a team still searching for consistency, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn\u2019t point first to talent or results. Instead, he emphasized something less tangible, but critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have guys that just compete,\u201d he said. \u201cYou want guys that play with edge, that aren\u2019t scared\u2026 that just want to go out there and fight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That mindset, he explained, is foundational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s half the battle in the NBA, every night just suiting up and going to work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a sentiment that aligns with what the Wizards have tried to establish throughout the season: effort, development, and identity before outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilgeous-Alexander also pointed to the team\u2019s evolving roster, highlighting the presence of proven veterans such as Anthony Davis (AD) and Trae Young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have some vets\u2026AD and Trae, two very proven guys in the NBA,\u201d he said. “They\u2019ll help once they get on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But his strongest endorsement came when he pointed to the people leading it the Wizards rebuild. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilgeous-Alexander has firsthand experience with both Wizards head coach Brian Keefe (BK) and general manager Will Dawkins from his time in Oklahoma City, a foundation that shaped his development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when he speaks on Washington\u2019s leadership, it comes from familiarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey are well coached. I know BK very well. He was here my first year at OKC, so I know what he\u2019s about. Will as well,\u201d he said. \u201cThey know what they\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Shai Gilgeous-Alexander\u2019s <\/a>view, the pieces are already in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey check all the boxes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next step is the hardest and the most expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow they just gotta focus on getting better every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if that growth continues, he believes the outcome is inevitable: “They\u2019ll get to where they want to go eventually.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
