As the Wizards continue to make offseason decisions, the team announced on Thursday that they are re-signing forward Anthony Gill. This is a good move for the Wizards because despite his limited minutes, Gill has been a solid veteran presence and locker room leader. These characteristics have garnered tremendous respect from his teammates and will be needed for the Wizards young roster.
Gill has appeared in 179 games (15 starts) in his four seasons in Washington, averaging 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. In 50 games (three starts) last season, Gill averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting .469 from the field.
The Charlotte, N.C. native was named the recipient of the Washington Wizards E.B. Henderson Team Award in April 2024, marking the second time he has been named the winner (2023-24; 2021-22). He received the honor for his work in the Washington, D.C. community. In addition, Gill was recognized as one of five finalists for the 2023-24 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award.
Prior to signing with Washington, he played for BC Khimki in Russia (2017-2020) and Yeşilgiresun Belediye in Turkey (2016-2017).
