Mystics Hit with Injury Setbacks as Season Nears

The Washington Mystics are facing a tough start to their 2025 campaign with key injuries impacting both the backcourt and frontcourt just as training camp ramps up.

On April 30, the team announced that rookie guard Georgia Amoore suffered a right ACL injury during Tuesday’s practice. Selected sixth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Amoore was expected to bring playmaking and energy to the Mystics’ evolving backcourt. She and the team are currently evaluating treatment and rehabilitation options, with further updates to come.

Adding to the team’s injury concerns, on May 1, the Mystics confirmed that forward Aaliyah Edwards has been diagnosed with a low back contusion. Edwards will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The second-year pro was poised to take on a larger role this season after showing promise during her rookie campaign in 2024.

The injuries to both Amoore and Edwards are significant setbacks for a Mystics squad looking to rebuild its identity with a mix of young talent and experienced veterans. With the regular season fast approaching, these developments could reshape early rotations and open up opportunities for others to step into bigger roles. Starting the season with injuries is not ideal so the Mystics depth could be tested quickly.
