Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen Named 2025 WNBA All-Stars

The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen have been named reserves for the 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game. Their selection marks a historic milestone, not only for the Mystics but for the league overall.

Citron and Iriafen are just the third and fourth rookies in franchise history to be named WNBA All-Stars. It’s also only the second time in league history, and the first since 1999, that rookie teammates have earned All-Star honors in the same season.

Both players have started all 18 games for the Mystics this year, making an immediate impact in their first professional season.

Sonia Citron, a guard out of Notre Dame, is averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. She currently ranks second among rookies in scoring and third in rebounds, and leads all first-year players in games with 10+ points (16).

Her standout performance came on June 22 against Dallas, where she posted 27 points and 11 rebounds—becoming the first rookie in franchise history to record a 25+ point, 10+ rebound game. She is also the only rookie this season with multiple games of 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.

Sonia Citron’s all-around production places her in elite company. She joins Napheesa Collier, Nneka Ogwumike, and Azurá Stevens as the only players this season to average at least 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting above 45% from the field and 37% from three-point range. In June, she averaged 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 steals—becoming the first rookie since Collier in 2019 to meet those marks over a single month.

Iriafen, a forward from California, has also made her mark, averaging 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average is tied for fourth in the WNBA, and she leads all rookies in total free-throw attempts. She ranks third among rookies in scoring and first in rebounding.

She opened her WNBA career with four double-doubles in her first five games—making her just the second rookie in league history to do so. In May, Iriafen was named Kia Rookie of the Month after averaging 13.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. She reached 100 points and 80 rebounds in just eight games—the fastest in Mystics history and the quickest by any WNBA rookie since Tina Charles in 2010.

Their selection also makes Washington one of only four teams in WNBA or NBA history to have two rookies named All-Stars in the same season. The previous duos were Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Shannon Johnson with Nykesha Sales (WNBA: Orlando Miracle, 1999), Isiah Thomas and Kelly Tripucka (NBA: Detroit Pistons, 1981–82), and Frank Selvy and Bob Pettit (NBA: Milwaukee Hawks, 1954–55).

This is the 11th time in franchise history the Mystics have had multiple All-Star selections.

The 2025 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game will be held on Saturday, July 19, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
