Buzz Williams Emphasizes Growth as Terps Drop Fourth Straight

The University of Maryland Terrapins suffered an 82-62 loss in a matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Thursday night. The Terps are now 1-10 in Big Ten play with only nine more games left in the 2025-2026 season.

As February continues, head coach Buzz Williams describes this month as “foundational February” in hopes to rebuild this Maryland team. The team is now battling a four-game losing streak with all of them ending in a 20-point deficit.

Maryland came out moderately strong in the first half, putting up the first few points on the board and led the game up until about the 15-minute mark.

They shot 47% from the field and 30% from the arc proving that they can get somewhat of an offensive rhythm going on the court, but continued to have issues keeping the ball on their side of the court. Maryland racked up 16 turnovers to which Ohio converted into 24 points.

Elijah Saunders had a fiery game, shooting 8-13 and 3-6 from the three, making it one of his best games this season. Solomon Washington also joined Saunders in the double-digit club, shooting 4-10 and making an explosive dunk in the first half.

“I thought Elijah was much more confident tonight,” head coach Buzz Williams said.

The Terps are still trying to figure out a starting five that works for them, as they’ve consistently changed the lineup each game. Maryland rolled out its 11th different starting lineup this season.

Although the Terps offense lacked, they had 28 rebounds to OSU’s 26, showing signs of improvement.

“I have a lot of gratitude toward our guys for how hard they’re continuing to fight and compete. I’ve got to continue to find ways to do better. I never want to justify losing in any sort of way, but I think the competitive spirit we play with is very strong,” WIlliams said.

The Terps look forward to facing the No.12 Minnesota Golden Gophers February 8th on their home turf.
