Trae Young Helps Wizards Envision Playoffs in Future

When Trae Young made his debut with the Washington Wizards, the moment carried significance beyond the stat sheet. But what may matter more long-term is what he’s been saying behind the scenes.

Bilal Coulibaly recently shared that veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis have been actively talking to Washington’s younger players about the playoff experience, painting a picture of what’s possible for a team still finding its footing.

After his debut, Young elaborated on the message he’s been delivering to the locker room.

“It’s very important for these young guys to understand the position we’re in right now and not to feel comfortable,” Young said. “The focus is to get better each and every day and not necessarily focus on the result. It’s about the grind, the practices, the film study. Those playoff moments are what we all live for — and that’s something to give us motivation to focus on the small things right now because those pay off in the end.”

For a Wizards team built around youth, that kind of veteran voice carries weight. Young finished his debut with 12 points, but the impact of his presence may ultimately be measured in something harder to quantify, the standard he’s setting for a locker room still learning what it takes.
