The Washington Nationals announced that Dr. Anthony Fauci will throw out the first pitch on Opening Day. As Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Fauci has been the face of the White Houses’ coronavirus task force as the nation faces its first pandemic.
In an official statement, the World Champion Nationals said:
“Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our world championship title.”
The Nationals Opening Day will feature a matchup with the New York Yankees on Thursday, July 22. Fauci is a native of Brooklyn now living in D.C. who is a fan of both teams.
