Washington Football Team’s Landon Collins has been named Week 3 NFLPA Community MVP for distributing 1,500 meals, as well as gift cards and other resources, to single-parent households in need across Virginia and Washington D.C. during the month of September.
“It’s an honor and blessing to be named NFLPA Community MVP,” Collins said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to use my platform for change and make an impact in the lives of these families.”
With most students in school virtually and many single parents adjusting to this new way of life while also working or facing unemployment, food insecurity has become an even bigger issue in many communities.
Through his Humble Path Foundation, Collins decided to help those who are facing this type of hardship by hosting a weekly meal delivery program. Since April, with the help of Empowered Mums and Hearts of Empowerment, the foundation has helped to provide thousands of meals to families in need across the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia regions through grocery shop-and-drop-offs, gift card distributions and direct meal deliveries.
Landon Collins created his Humble Path Foundation to enhance the lives of the youth by rebuilding communities and instilling the importance of educational, physical and social needs. The Washington safety believes that nothing should stop a child from carving out his or her own path. Since its inception last year, the foundation has:
- Served meals to more than 400 frontline workers across a four-week period during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year;
- Held a Back to School giveaway that supplied 200 at-risk youth with new backpacks, school supplies and hygiene kits;
- Hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for 600 kids in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana;
- Surprised 25 kids from a local sports team with a shopping spree;
- Led a disaster relief fundraiser in partnership with the Red Cross to assist those impacted by Hurricane Sally in his home state of Louisiana; and
- Created digital All-Star STEM workshops for at-risk youth.
Even prior to his foundation’s launch, the sixth-year veteran made his mark off the field with efforts such as surprising a youth football team with a donation of $10,000 towards equipment for the team, packing up sandwiches for the Richmond Food Bank and hosting a celebrity softball game for charity.
In honor of Collins being named Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to The Humble Path Foundation. Each week, the NFLPA recognizes a new Community MVP who is making a positive impact in their hometowns and team cities.
