In a very crucial win or go home scenario, the Dallas Wings picked up a 99-89 road win on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Connecticut Sun to even up the series one a piece and forcing a game three back in Dallas.
It was a rough afternoon for the third-seeded Sun, who started slow out the gates and seemed to have no answer for the Wings firing at all cylinders. The Wings, who are without team leading scorer, Arike Ogunbowale, took control in the first half taking a 22-7 lead in the first quarter behind the solid three-point shooting.
The Wings would then go up by as much as 31 points, going on a 12-0 run against the Sun, taking a massive lead in the third quarter. The Sun would dig itself out of the enormous hole throughout the fourth quarter, but it would prove to be too much as the Wings close it out with a big three from Veronica Burton.
Wings forward, Kayla Thorton would lead the way for Dallas with 20 points and five rebounds while also breaking her previous career-high of three-pointers in a single game, going 4-6 from the field. Alisha Gray was also significant with 15 points and eight assists.
Jonquel Jones would be the only starter notching double digits, hoisting 20 points to go with 13 rebounds for the Sun.
Game three will take place in Dallas on Wednesday, August 23.
