The Washington Mystics announced that the team has hired Ashlee McGee as an assistant coach on Head Coach Eric Thibault’s staff.

“We are thrilled to add Ashlee to our Mystics’ coaching staff,” said Thibault. “Her enthusiasm and experience in the WNBA, NBA, NCAA and USA basketball will help our players to be at their very best. We’re excited to get her to D.C. to join our group in our pursuit of a WNBA championship.”

McGee brings a great deal of experience to the Mystics, having last served as a video coordinator for the Minnesota Lynx (2020-2022) and video/player development associate for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2021-2023). She was an advanced scout for the Los Angeles Sparks during the 2018 season and has been a video coordinator for USA Basketball since 2022.

“I am so excited to be joining the Mystics organization,” said McGee. “This is a great opportunity to become part of a championship culture, something special, and I am energized thinking about the relationships and the community I am stepping into.  I hope to contribute to the foundation Washington laid before me and am beyond elated to become part of the family!”

Prior to her stints with Minnesota and Los Angeles, McGee served as an assistant coach on multiple women’s college basketball staffs, including James Madison University (2016-2017) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2014-2016). She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Tennessee State University from 2010-2014.

McGee received her bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University studying Health and Human Performance and led the Governors to back-to-back appearances in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament as a member of the women’s basketball program.

The Washington Mystics tip off the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 19 versus the New York Liberty at 7:00 p.m.
