The Washington Wizards officially announced the signing of forward Corey Kispert to a four-year, $54 million contract extension, marking a significant step in the team’s development and long-term planning. This decision reflects the organization’s confidence in Kispert’s continued growth and importance to the franchise.
“Corey is someone who positively impacts our environment daily. He consistently shows up for the organization as both a player and a teammate, embodying the passion and professionalism we value,” said Wizards General Manager Will Dawkins. “We are excited that he has the opportunity to continue his growth and development in Washington. He’s a relentless worker who has added to his game each season. We look forward to his further evolution in the coming years.”
“We got the deal done last night and I’m excited to be here,” Kispert said. “I’m excited to get the deal done, secure the future for my family, and play for this organization. Ultimately now just focus on the season.”
Drafted 15th overall by Washington in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga, Kispert has been a reliable contributor over his first three seasons in the league. Kispert has averaged 10.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game over 231 appearances, with 103 starts. His shooting has been a standout feature of his game, as he owns a career .481 shooting percentage from the field and an impressive .388 from beyond the arc.
Kispert’s ability to stretch the floor with his shooting has made him a valuable asset. On November 24, 2023, he became the quickest player in franchise history to reach 300 made three-pointers, achieving the milestone in just his 165th career game. This accomplishment underscores his efficiency and consistent improvement in one of the league’s most coveted skills—three-point shooting.
Currently, Kispert ranks second among all third-year players in career three-pointers with 459, trailing only Jalen Green, who has 545. His .388 three-point shooting percentage places him fourth among that same group (minimum 100 made threes). Furthermore, Kispert made franchise history by becoming the first Wizard to surpass 100 made threes in each of his first three NBA seasons.
Kispert’s work ethic and ability to evolve have been integral to his success thus far. He’s not only a consistent outside shooter, but also a player who has improved his defense and off-ball movement, becoming a more complete player year after year. His extension is a reflection of the Wizards’ belief in his potential to be a key piece of their future core.
Kispert has also gained the respect of his teammates including Jordan Poole who reacted positively to the contract news. “I was extremely excited, congrats to Corey, really happy for him,” Poole said. “He’s an extremely hard worker, amazing player, and even better person.”
As Washington undergoes a period of transition, with new leadership in the front office and a commitment to building for the future, Kispert’s continued presence adds stability and reliability. He is expected to play a critical role as the team looks to further develop its young talent and compete in a competitive Eastern Conference.
For Kispert, this contract extension is a testament to the hard work he has put in since joining the NBA, and it paves the way for him to continue honing his skills in a familiar environment. With his focus on continued improvement and his established role as a sharpshooter, the Wizards are betting on his upward trajectory to help shape the team’s success in the coming years.
