Maryland (No. 20) used a dominant third quarter to pull away from Penn State, 81–62, at the XFINITY Center on Thursday night. A 16–2 run coming out of halftime flipped the game and gave the Terps the separation they needed.

Maryland placed five players in double figures in the win. Yarden Garzon led the way with 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers and continuing her strong season from beyond the arc. Oluchi Okananwa added 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds, while Addi Mack finished with 13. Saylor Poffenbarger recorded her 21st career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Mir McLean chipped in 10.

The Terps acknowledged it wasn’t their sharpest start. “We had a slow start, we weren’t playing Maryland basketball. We had to get back to our identity,” Okananwa said postgame. The halftime message was direct. “Coach was mad — rightfully so. She told us don’t get lax, get back to who we are.”

Maryland responded immediately in the third quarter, tightening defensively and turning stops into rhythm offense. The surge secured their third straight win and another 20-win season under head coach Brenda Frese as the Terps continue to build momentum in conference play.
